DiI can be used for mouse injection practice, or for localizing fibers in the brain by painting it onto the fibers.

DiI details: https://www.thermofisher.com/order/catalog/product/D3911 Dil Stain (1,1'-Dioctadecyl-3,3,3',3'-Tetramethylindocarbocyanine Perchlorate ('DiI'; DiIC18(3))) Catalog number: D3911

Recommended dilution: Prepare stock solutions of lipophilic tracers in dimethyl formamide (DMF), dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), or ethanol at 1 to 2.5 mg/mL.

Our dilution: 25 mg/mL in 100% ethanol. They were divided into 4 tubes and marked as 10X. From one 10X 20 uL was further dissolved in 180 uL of 100% ethanol. This was marked as 1X. This 1X was sonicated to dissolve any undissolved particle of DiI. The color should be bright orange and towards transparent. All the stocks are stored in this -20 freezer.
