- 3D Slicer Modules: individual tools in 3D Slicer. AutomaticContour and ErosionDetection are two separate modules in this 3D Slicer extension.
- Periosteal Mask: a binary mask that marks the periosteal bone surface and indicates where the bone surface should be if there were no bone erosions.
- Endosteal Mask: a binary mask that marks the endosteal bone surface and shows the inner surface of the cortex.
- Seed Point: a point on an image to help with image processing. The erosion analysis in this 3D Slicer extension is not completely automatic as it requires manually selected seed points as input.
- Voxel Intensity: the brightness of each point in a three-dimensional image. Voxels with different intensities may represent different anatomical structures.
- Dilate/Erode Operations: imaging filters that inflate/deflate the objects in an image by a certain distance. Those operations are used in the image segmentation pipelines in this 3D Slicer extension.
- Bone Erosion: a cortical break that extends over at least two slices on two perpendicular planes on HR-pQCT, and is non-linear in shape (to differentiate from a physiological vascular channel that is linear in shape) [1]. Below is an example [1].
- Cortical Break: a clear disruption of the cortex, seen on two consecutive slices on two perpendicular planes on HR-pQCT. Erosions are a subset of cortical breaks. It is difficult to automatically identify erosions, so the toolkit aims to automatically identify cortical breaks instead, based on an automated algorithm [2].
