Space Bases

Space bases do a few things: They make space travel much cheaper, they're your main method of survival in space long term, and are overall, pretty cool. There are three main concerns when making one:

Power

Power is extremely important, as without it, both oxygen production and temperature regulation are not possible.

Combustion engines are a great short term method of power production in space due to the fact they run off of rocket fuel, meaning they can be plugged into your rocket to produce power to get a base up and running. However, one should be careful when doing this to make sure they still have enough fuel to go home should things go wrong. They can also be used late game, once electrolysis machines come into the picture, and hydrogen becomes abundant.

Solar panels cannot be used as a sole source of power, but they work as a cheap supplement to increase power capacity during the day. Machines could be configured with a daylight sensor to turn off during night in case you rely on solar panels.

Steam engines are the main late-game source of power. However, they do rely on liquid water to work, meaning they can't be your only source of energy. Some other power production must be in place to get them up and running, but once they start, they can run perfectly fine.

Blaze burners also can use liquid hydrogen to be super-heated, meaning steam engines can be used to their full potential.

Oxygen

Oxygen production is crucial to any base. There are 2 different methods of producing oxygen: You can collect oxygen from Earth and ship it to your destination along with your rocket, or you can produce it in the base itself by using an Electrolysis Machine, which splits liquid water into oxygen and hydrogen.

Once Oxygen production is taken care of, the next step would be to setup an Oxygen Sealer to make sure the environment is sufficiently oxygenated. Simply pump the oxygen through a pipe into the back of the oxygen sealer, while also giving the sealer rotational power through the bottom. Please be sure that there are no places that oxygen may leak out into space. If your oxygen sealer keeps leaking despite the fact there are no places it could leak, you may have a space too large for an oxygen sealer. In that case, you may have to section off parts of your base and have separate oxygen sealers for each area.

It's important to note that adding more oxygen sealers does NOT increase the amount of blocks oxygenated.

In case an unexpected leak occurs, you can use an Oxygen Detector to sense if oxygen is absent in an area, and seal off areas with pistons to keep them from also leaking.

Temperature

Temperature is extremely important to consider when making a base long term, primarily because of how useful liquid water can be.

Temperature regulators have 2 settings: Fill Environment mode, and Box mode. Fill Environment mode is pretty self explanatory: it's influence fills the surrounding environment and changes the temperature of said blocks to the temperature selected. Box mode is a bit more complex, where it takes the 3 scales that can be shifted up or down on the left of it's UI, and creates a box around itself in that shape; all blocks in said box have their temperatures changed to the temperature determined on the regulator. Both modes can be used indoors or outdoors.

Typically, you are going to want at least 2 temperature regulators: one for making a pool of liquid water using Box mode, and one filling your base on Fill Environment mode. If, for whatever reason, your water freezes, the "fill environment" mode will not be able to thaw the ice. The box mode, however, will, and will make recovering from such a accident much easier.

Temperature regulators don't have to be used to make it room temperature: For example, you could use them to make it below freezing to make yourself some ice cream, or you could make it extremely hot to the point liquid hydrocarbons spontaneously combust. In other words, you can go and freeze the nether over! Or make the End boiling hot!
