We've been struggling with remembering to do some things that would need doing months apart but still on a regular basis. There are tools for doing this but ideally we would avoid paying for something new. It seems that Google Calendar may be able to help in this role although it still has some shortcomings.

The "Chores" calendar has been updated to remove the "put milk bottles out" item and add a few things that need to happen every month or every few months.

To give a better chance of remembering it is advised that one would subscribe to email notifications for this calendar. It seems like anyone can do this so if they have a Google Calendar account but they will need to add the calendar.

To subscribe to the notifications you would need to find the calendar via the link above, then click the Add to Google Calendar link on the bottom left.

Once you have added the calendar, find it in the list on the bottom left, hover over it, click on the three dots and select "Settings"

In settings scroll down to Event Notifications and you can add email notifications

There is also an option further down under "Other Notifications" to receive a daily agenda which might be useful
