# SEO Basics for Shopify Themes

- **H1 tags:** Use one heading (H1) per page. Our theme’s banner is usually H1, so only add one per template. (Extra banners = extra H1s, which isn’t ideal for SEO.)
- **Product/Collection Pages:** Stick to a single main H1 for SEO, use sub-headings (H2/H3) for detail.
- **Sitemap.xml:** Shopify auto-generates and updates this at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. You don’t need to resubmit after updates—Shopify pings Google for you.
- **Meta tags & images:** Update titles/descriptions in Shopify admin > Settings > Preferences for accurate search info.
