Replace nodegit with simple-git and a compatibility layer to enable support for modern Node.js versions (18+, including 23+) without native module compilation. Key changes: - Created nodegit_compat.js compatibility layer implementing nodegit API - Updated dependencies (argparse 1.x, removed mocha-parallel-tests) - Added .npmrc to handle peer dependencies automatically - Fixed compatibility issues (isBare, Diff methods, Index methods, etc.) - Updated README with simplified installation instructions All functionality preserved with no deprecation warnings and no need for --legacy-peer-deps flag.
