Cleaned dataset from the East London Waterworks Park (ELWP) perimeter walk,
collected on 6 October 2025 in collaboration with UCL MSc students.
The data were gathered as part of a practical field exercise and standardised for analysis and mapping.
| File | Description |
|---|---|
data/observations_clean_curated.csv |
Main cleaned dataset (33 records, WGS84 lat/lon). |
data/observations_clean_curated.geojson |
Same data in GeoJSON format for GIS/web mapping. |
docs/data_dictionary_min.csv |
Field names, units, and short descriptions. |
Each row represents a single observation — tree/shrub, vegetation patch, bird, or site issue —
recorded by UCL MSc students during the perimeter walk.
Key fields:
- observation_id – unique record ID (
ELWP_UCL_###) - method – tree / veg_patch / bird / issue
- species – species name (merged from list and free text)
- dbh_cm, est_height_m, canopy_diam_m – tree metrics
- cover_pct, sward_height_cm – vegetation metrics
- latitude, longitude – WGS84 coordinates
- notes – field notes and comments
See docs/data_dictionary_min.csv for full field details.
- Combined Species and Species (free text, if not listed) into a single field,
tracking provenance viaspecies_source(list,free_text,missing). - Removed KoBo system and student identifier fields.
- Standardised units (cm, m, %, DAFOR 1–5).
- Removed obvious entry errors (negative values, sward height > 300 cm).
- Added
canopy_area_m2from canopy diameter. - Validated latitude/longitude (EPSG 4326) and removed invalid points.
