We'll be using two books this semester.

Data Science from Scratch: First Principles with Python. By Joel Grus. O'Reilly (2015). This one you'll have to pay for, but it has a github page with all the code that you can get for free.
Interactive Data Visualization for the Web. By Scott Murray. O'Reilly (2013). This one has a free online-version. Just click on the link.
