The extension works alongside the Vivid MCP server for AI-assisted creative coding. Here's how the components work together:
| Component | Responsibility |
|---|---|
| VS Code Extension | Start Vivid projects (Vivid: Run Project), browse operators, syntax highlighting |
| Vivid MCP Server | Query/control running Vivid (parameters, capture frames, check compile status) |
| Claude Code | Edit chain.cpp, apply slider changes, verify compilation |
- User starts Vivid:
Vivid: Run Projectcommand or terminal - User adjusts sliders in the chain visualizer UI (preview updates live)
- Claude calls
get_pending_changesto see slider adjustments - Claude edits chain.cpp with the new parameter values
- Claude calls
get_runtime_statusto verify hot-reload succeeded - Claude calls
capture_frameto visually verify changes
Configure Claude Code to use the Vivid MCP server. Add to ~/.claude.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"vivid": {
"command": "/path/to/vivid",
"args": ["mcp"]
}
}
}Or use the Vivid: Configure Claude Code Integration command for guided setup.
The extension adds a Vivid panel to the Activity Bar with:
- Operators: Browse available operators with documentation
