Summary of Changes

Hello @robert-burger, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request refactors the project's build system to centralize version management within the Conan package manager, dynamically injecting the version into the Autotools configuration. It also includes minor build configuration adjustments and release preparation updates.

Highlights

  • Centralized Versioning: The project's version is now managed by Conan and dynamically injected into the Autotools configure.ac file. This change eliminates the need for a separate project.properties file that previously held the version.
  • Dynamic Autotools Configuration: The configure.ac file is no longer a static part of the repository. Instead, conanfile.py now generates it from a configure.ac.in template during the build process, allowing for dynamic version integration.
  • Build Optimization: Code coverage generation has been disabled for Conan builds in rmc-build.yaml. This adjustment likely aims to streamline the build process, especially for release builds where coverage might not be a primary concern.
  • Release Changelog Update: The Debian changelog has been updated to reflect a cleaner version string (0.1.0~pre1), which is a minor cleanup consistent with release preparation.

Code Review

This pull request refactors the build process to remove hardcoded version strings, instead injecting the version during the build from a template file. This is a great improvement for maintainability.

My review identified a high-severity path issue in conanfile.py that would cause the build to fail. I've provided a direct code suggestion to fix this. The rest of the changes, including file removals and configuration updates, are consistent with the PR's goal and look correct.
