Prototype site creator. Based on markdown with json config and designed to be updated through Github UI.
Static site generated through Eleventy.
To run:
npm install
npx @11ty/eleventy --serve to run locally on hot reloading server
Underlying styling and grid from Bootstrap
Includes .gitignore to exclude generated files from repository. Intent is generation of HTML (oincluding conversion of markdown) is done on deploy using npm run prod.
Site is hosted on Netlify at: https://proto-website-generator.netlify.app/
On update to main, the site will regenerate the pages and navigation from the pages.json file and HTML from markdown and deploy the update to netlify.
Reads the content of the markdown files in the helpers/input directory and converts them to HTML. Output HTML files are pushed to ../_includes/ for use in the app.
Also adds some styles and fixes some markdown issues post conversion.
Run manually using:
node helpers/convert-markdown.js
This is also automatically run on deployment.
Automates the creation of new pages based on the content of new-pages.json. This is located in the helpers directory
"type": Can be "home", "basic" or "navigation"
"breadcrumb" Is for defining any layers between this page and the home page. NOTE:'home' and the page itself need not be included.
NOTE: Due to the way Eleventy build templates you need to make sure the markdown file has been added to helpers/input and Markdown converter has been run before running.
Run manually using:
node helpers/new-pages.js
Currently uses two page templates (simple and navigation), could be extended to work with more templates. Safe to be rerun with existing pages.
This is also automatically run on deployment.

A page to help generate new pages or edit existing ones. Will generate a new pages.json that can replace the existing (manual step). will read the latest pages.json form github on load so all actions can be done without needing to clone the repo.
