  • create a map widget using the Publishing API to embed a results map similar to the AIR2 search results map.

  • we need a way to easily create an embeddable slide show of submitted images along with submitted insight (jj)

  • we need a way to create a word cloud from answers to a particular query question or questions...maybe clicking on a word reveals a way to see the related submissions (jj)

  • we need to create a response grid where sources plot themselves on two axises and then give insight about their situation. Responses can be viewed as points in a grid with insights that pop up as we click around. ("on a scale from 0 to 10, how happy are you with your job?" "Type your age") (yes, this is similar to what NYTimes pulls out on some occasions...and no, we don't have a good example query. But we could make one with this intent!) (jj)

  • easily and beautifully view submissions on an iPad...app or web page (jj)

  • we need a script that will automatically read through responses and make an good guess about whether the source is a parent. Or a veteran. Or [fill in the blank]. (jj)

  • we need to make a widget that takes publishable photos and automatically resizes them to a newsroom's horiz or vert specs. (jj)

  • we need a widget to display short responses (poems, say) in a tiled, responsive format that includes title, work, name, photo all displayed in appropriate different styles. (We could create a template for a query that would easily feed such a widget and partners could copy it anytime they want to do a basic poetry or short-answer query. I'm happy to help do that.) (jj)

  • if only we could make it easy to display submitted photos along with a short paragraph about their content in a tiled, responsive format...similar to the "view from your front door" project that Marketplace did (http://www.marketplace.org/topics/wealth-poverty/neighborhood-photo-project/your-neighborhood-through-your-eyes) (jj)

  • if only we could put a green "me too" button next to insight from a query that would count the number of clicks and also bring up the query for someone to explain their similar experience...and if the original insight was displayed in a list with other insights, getting more clicks would raise it to closer to the top of that list (jj)

  • if only simple queries could "pop-up" in a box on a screen. One question/paragraph box with a "Next" button followed by name/zip/email boxes and a "Submit" button. Micro-querying! Without leaving the story I'm already reading! (jj)

  • if only there was an elegant, eye-catching, responsive way to display all of a newsroom's recent queries on /one of their own web pages/. (jj) (you mean like: https://www.publicinsightnetwork.org/source/en/newsroom/mpr#queries ? (pk)) (more like this, actually: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/publicinsightjournalism/ Maybe it's a widget that pulls in a photo, headline/link and description that partners can plop on any page they wish without having to enter all that same info into their own CMS. Changing my problem statement above to reflect it would be a tool for their own website rather than their page within ours.(jj))

  • We need a way a mobile-friendly way to get gather and distribute insights directly to the audience, and lets them rate the insights.

  • We need a timeline or other data visualization widget that allows us to plot responses to the same question over time

  • We need a way for sources, not just journalists, to organize insights and help make sense of them

  • We need a way to notify sources when journalists have read their submissions, tagged them as insightful, or utilized them to inform a story

  • We need a "what do you want to next" feature that prompts sources to search for other queries, read responses to a query they just answered, invite my friends to join PIN.

  • We need a way for people who are reading a story to share their insight or pose a question right then and there, or to send a quote, fact or question to knowledgeable people they know and then displaying those insights as branches or threads of the story (as opposed to comments on the story), therefore making the story a living organism.
