The game is a 2D platformer with Metroidvania-inspired structure and a focus on movement, timing, and exploration. Levels are built to span both vertically and horizontally routes, the player has to beat the enemies, bypass the obstacle to reach the finishing door.
Captain Clown Nose’s moveset is deliberately versatile:
- Ground and aerial attacks with his cutlass.
- An alternate ranged “throw” attack for distance.
- Jump-through platforms (but not solid ground) for vertical flow.
- Responsive air control for precision movement and air attack.
Enemy types fall into two categories:
- Shooter traps: static hazards built into the environment, firing projectiles at set intervals or triggers.
- Autonomous enemies (the Crusty Crew): mobile, dynamic opponents with patrol, chase, and attack states.
- Expressive platforming with jump-through platforms, precision control, and fluid movement.
- Full player moveset: melee and ranged attacks, ground/air differentiation, and mid-air control.
- Two enemy archetypes: shooter traps (environmental) and autonomous AI foes (Crusty Crew).
- Item & gear progression: tiered weapons, defense upgrades, and consumables.
- Merchant economy: buy upgrades, consumables, and ammo with gold found in-level.
- Boss design: multi-phase encounter reusing and remixing core mechanics.
- Concise tutorial: learn by doing in a safe, purpose-built level.
- Branching routes & secrets: exploration rewarded with loot and shortcuts.
- Persistent progression: the game uses a simple level unlock system seen in simple mobile games. vSimple, functional settings: essential customization without clutter.
