Ah, this makes me think that we would have caught this regression if Render had built in #552 (the root of the issue). So arguably, we should add package.json to the build filters. But it could be overkill.

For now, I'm simply added a new commit to make sure we run if the dependencies change, using https://render.com/docs/monorepo-support#using-root-directory-and-build-filters-together with c7671f9. Also propagated to the private version of the same infra with https://github.com/mui/mui-private/commit/ad5ebe421b9c4c4bd8b9f17ee67e22f4bbf038c6.
