The Phone Directory application package
=======================================
This is the Phone Directory application for generating a nicely formatted
2-page .pdf file of names and phone numbers organized in groups.
Phone Directory stores everything in the JSON format. This format is easily
editable by humans, and is also supported by many programming languages.
Because of this, it would be easy to combine Phone Directory with another
tool.
More information may be found in the user manual, which should have been
installed along with this README file. You may also find resources on the
application's home page ([1]).

Change Log
==========
Version 0.7
-----------
* Proper support for display scaling in Windows Vista and above.
* Better handling of keyboard presses
* Fix for GUI artifacts when resizing windows.
* Compiled with GHC 7.4.1 instead of 7.0.4.
* Upgrade of many underlying software libraries.
* Monad transformer library changed from mtl to transformers.
* JSON serialization library changed from data-object-json to aeson.
* csv parsing library changed from csv to bytestring-csv.
Version 0.6
-----------
* Better dash rendering
* Exporting to CSV creates 12 fields per line rather than 4. The first 6
fields are for the organization and the last 6 are for the contact.
[first, last, phone, priority, 'first last', 'last, first']
* Importing from CSV now faithfully recreates contacts.
Version 0.5
-----------
* Exporting to CSV is now supported. Each line contains the organization name
and number followed by the contact name and number.
* Importing from CSV is now supported. Each imported contact will be
distinct. Organizations get merged with others that have an identical name
and number.
* The generated .pdf file contains gray dashes between each name and number
mapping.
Version 0.4
-----------
* new page setup screen allows you to print horizontally or vertically and
define page margins.
* Updated versions of WxWidgets, GHC runtime etc.
* BUG FIX: now using local time rather than UTC time to determine date.
Version 0.3
-----------
* File association with *.pdir in the Windows binary.
* Adjustments to formatting of generated .pdf file.
* BUG FIX: Full names were not sorting with singular names correctly.
* BUG FIX: Fixed a few minor GUI rendering problems.
Installation instructions for the Phone Directory application
=============================================================
Building from source
--------------------
Phone Directory is a haskell application. The easiest way to build it is to
first install the Haskell Platform from ([2]) and then execute the following
from the command line:
cabal fetch pdirectory
cabal configure --user
cabal build
At this point you can either execute `cabal install`, but if you are using
Windows the best thing would be to generate an installer from the 'nsis'
folder.
Preparing an installer for Windows
----------------------------------
An extra object file for the embedded icon must be made available. I don't
know how to do this within the cabal file yet.
windres.exe "data/images/icon.rc" "src/icon.o"
cabal configure
cabal build
Now that this is done, you can execute the NSIS installer script from the nsis
folder.
Installing from a Windows binary
--------------------------------
This is the preferred method if you are using Windows. Download the installer
from ([1]) and run it.
