The objective of the game is to win the most tricks. A trick consists of one card played by each player in turn. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick, unless a trump suit is played, in which case the highest trump card wins the trick.
- A standard deck of 52 cards is used.
- The deck is shuffled and 6 cards are dealt to each player.
- One card is turned face-up from the remaining deck to determine the trump suit.
- The player to the left of the dealer starts the first trick.
- Each turn consists of a player playing a card and the other player attempting to beat it.
- The player who wins a trick leads the next trick.
- A player may only play a card from their hand.
- If a player cannot beat the current highest card on the table, they must take the table.
- A player may take the table at any time during their turn by saying "take".
- A player may not take the table if there are no cards on the table.
- The game continues until all cards have been played.
- The player with no cards on hand at the end of the game wins.
