Why can't I see some songs in the library?

By default, Booming Music ignores songs shorter than 60 seconds. You can change this in Settings > Library.

If the songs still aren't appearing and you've already checked that it's not a problem with the app's filters, you might need to force Android to scan the media. This isn't usually necessary, but under certain circumstances, Android might not have done so. In that case, you'll need to perform the scan yourself. To do this, go to any page in the library and, in the upper right corner, tap the three-dot menu and select "Scan media."

If the songs still don't appear, you can restart your device and check if they're detected in other apps. If not, it could be due to a corrupted file or an incompatible format. For more information on supported formats, please see this page.

Why aren't some songs playing?

There are several causes for playback errors in the app; however, the most common are corrupted files or incompatible formats. Booming Music uses Media3 for media playback; see this page for more information on the audio formats supported by Media3.

Why do some songs show the wrong or repeated album artwork?

By default, Booming Music pulls album covers from the Android MediaStore, matching them to the album each song belongs to. That means all tracks from the same album will share the same image, which helps save resources and keeps the app running smoothly.
Because of this, the app doesn’t use the artwork that might be embedded inside the audio files themselves.

If you’d rather see the embedded artwork, open Settings > Library, scroll to the bottom, and switch on “Ignore MediaStore covers”. After that, just restart the app and your changes will take effect.

Why is the year not showing on some albums/songs, but it is showing in the tag editor?

Android's MediaStore isn't capable of reading some ID3v2.4 tags. Only ID3v2.4 tags are fully supported. See here for instructions.

Why aren’t the visual effects working in the lyrics view?

First, please note that advanced visual effects only work in the full-screen lyrics view. Other factors that may prevent these effects from appearing include:

  • Battery Saver: When enabled, Booming automatically reduces visual effects to save power.
  • Device Incompatibility: Some effects may not be available on all devices due to variations in Android versions or manufacturer-specific software.

Aren't lyrics supposed to be downloaded automatically?

Yes, they are, but not in the F-Droid release, only the Github release.

To enable automatic download of lyrics, go to the 'Library' page in the settings, and scroll down to the 'Metadata' section. From there, enable 'Auto download metadata', and you're done.
