Hi, I noticed this hasn't been maintained for years, but we actually still have a few projects that depend on this gem. While updating dependencies in some of our projects I noticed some conflicts with this gem's dependencies (old versions). So it was easier to create a PR to update this library than migrating all our projects to a new deployment strategy.
This is my first contribution to an open source project, so apologies if I missed anything.
I have removed the aws-sdk (v1) and replaced it with the specify AWS SDK v3 components that are used by this gem. While at it I also upgraded all other dependencies to their latest version.
