Brand Forge

Brand Forge — a toolkit for designing, generating, and managing brand assets and style guides.

Short description: Brand Forge helps teams and creators quickly prototype logos, color palettes, type scales, and styleguides, then export them as downloadable assets or code-ready tokens.

Status: DRAFT — update this README with concrete project details (stack, commands, examples) when available.

About

Brand Forge is intended to be a single place to:

  • Rapidly prototype brand identities (logo concepts, color systems, typography scales).
  • Generate production-ready assets (SVG/PNG logos, CSS variables, design tokens).
  • Create human-friendly styleguides or developer-friendly token packages to share across projects.

This repository contains the code and assets for Brand Forge. Replace this high-level description with specifics about what this project actually contains (frontend framework, backend APIs, CLI tools, asset formats).

Key features

  • Logo generator and template library
  • Color palette engine with accessibility checks (contrast)
  • Typography scale and variable font preview
  • Export to common formats (SVG, PNG, CSS variables, JSON design tokens)
  • Project templates and shareable styleguides
  • CI-friendly token packaging for consumption in other repos

Getting started

Prerequisites

  • Git
  • Node.js >= 16.x (if this is a Node project) OR Python >= 3.8 (if Python) — remove what doesn't apply
  • Docker (optional, for containerized development)
  • Any other tooling your project uses (e.g., pnpm, yarn, go, rustup)

Quick install (example - Node.js)

  1. Clone the repo git clone https://github.com/iamdanwi/brand-forge.git cd brand-forge

  2. Install dependencies npm install

    or

    yarn

    or

    pnpm install

Run locally (example)

  • Start development server npm run dev

    or

    npm start

  • Visit http://localhost:3000 (or the address printed by your dev server)

If your repo uses a different stack, replace the commands above with the project's actual install/run commands.

Usage

Web UI

  • Open the web UI (development server) and follow the on-screen flow to create a brand:
    1. Start a new project
    2. Pick or generate a palette
    3. Create/type-scale and adjust typography
    4. Build or tweak a logo
    5. Export assets or download a package

CLI (if applicable)

  • Create a new brand from a template: brand-forge init my-brand --template minimal
  • Export tokens: brand-forge export tokens --format json --out ./dist

Exporting assets

  • Exports supported: SVG, PNG, CSS variables, JSON design tokens, SCSS maps
  • Example: npm run export -- --format=svg --output=./exports/logo.svg

Configuration

  • .env (or other config)
    • PORT=3000
    • NODE_ENV=development
    • LOG_LEVEL=info
  • token configuration is located in /config/tokens.yml (update path as appropriate)
  • Add any environment variables, config files, or runtime options the project uses.

Development

Common tasks

  • Install deps: npm install
  • Start dev server: npm run dev
  • Build production bundle: npm run build
  • Run tests: npm test

Tests

  • Unit tests: Jest / vitest / pytest — replace with your test runner
  • To run: npm test

    or

    pytest

Linting & formatting

  • Lint: npm run lint
  • Format: npm run format
  • Recommended tools: ESLint, Prettier, stylelint, or language-specific linters

Deployment

  • CI: Add steps to build, test, and publish assets or packages

  • Example (Docker): docker build -t iamdanwi/brand-forge:latest . docker run -p 3000:3000 iamdanwi/brand-forge:latest

  • Deployment targets: Vercel / Netlify / GitHub Pages for frontends, Docker / Kubernetes / Heroku for backend services

Contributing

Contributions are welcome! A minimal contributing guide:

  1. Fork the repo
  2. Create a branch: git checkout -b feat/my-feature
  3. Make changes, add tests, run lint and tests
  4. Open a PR with a clear description and screenshots (if UI changes)

Please follow the repository's CODE_OF_CONDUCT and CONTRIBUTING guidelines (add files if not present).

Roadmap & ideas

  • Automated accessibility checks for palettes and contrast
  • AI-assisted logo suggestion and variants
  • One-click export to Figma / Adobe XD tokens
  • npm package of design tokens for easy consumption

License

Specify the license for the project here (e.g., MIT). If you haven't chosen one yet, consider adding a LICENSE file.

Acknowledgements

  • List libraries, templates, and designers you built on or were inspired by.

Notes for repository owner

This README is a template and intentionally generic. To finish it:

  • Replace placeholder commands with the actual install/run/test commands for your stack.
  • Add real badges (CI, coverage, license).
  • Add screenshots or animated GIFs of the UI in action.
  • Link to LICENSE, CONTRIBUTING, and CODE_OF_CONDUCT files.
  • Fill out any TODOs and remove sections that don't apply.
