Are you sure this is the correct form of README.md?
For me it is rather some kind of index.html file. README.md file by default should not be changed.

No, please add index.html file with the content that you provided inside.

Can you style it so it looks at least a bit better than right now ? The layout from http://getbootstrap.com/getting-started/ should be achievable quite quickly.
