The idea is that pytest's tmp_path and tmp_path_factory may be more resilient on Windows for PermissionErrors.

Initially I planned for this PR to include all v1.0 changes, since they would break backward compatibility in some ways and require a DB rebuild, and I wanted to keep the main branch available for hotfixes and minor releases in the meantime. But now things are nearly there and it's time to start merging, so I will merge this branch now and create another PR for some remaining v1.0 changes. |
