This repository contains some Python code to analyze various meteorological data from weather stations in the Netherlands.
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) is the Dutch national research and information centre for meteorology, climate, air quality, and seismology. KNMI operates 35 automatic weather stations in the Netherlands that measure various meteorological data (temperature, sunshine, cloud cover and visibility, air pressure, wind and precipitation):
- Daily measurements from each station can be downloaded here. Note that this data has not been homogenized and is therefore not suitable for long-term high-precision trend analysis (see next bullet point). Daily measurements from KNMI's De Bilt weather station, from 1901 until August 2018, have been saved as a csv-file in this repository. An updated data set or data from a different weather station can be downloaded automatically using getdata.sh.
- Long-term high-precision trend analysis of meteorological data is only possible if the data set has been corrected for known systematic effects such as inhomogeneities due to station relocations and changes in measurement procedures. Central Netherlands Temperature (CNT) is a monthly mean temperature series constructed from homogenized time series from several weather stations, and is publicly available here. The complete CNT data set from 1906 until August 2018 has been saved as a txt-file in this repository.
The Python Jupyter notebooks listed below are best viewed online using Jupyter nbviewer, which has improved display rendering capabilities compared to Github:
