Hi! I'm Emily, and I build things with language.
My first programming language was Logo, and my first website was on GeoCities. I majored in Spanish, went on to pursue translation, and eventually found my way back to programming.
For many years, I focused almost exclusively on the web. More recently, I've ventured into the world of scientific computing, where my work has found a renewed sense of purpose. I'm also enjoying dabbling in other fields as I take courses toward a second bachelor's degree in Computer Science. (Visit Backpacking to see my progress!)
I designed this site using Figma. The background colors are approximations of Crayola crayon colors, and I checked all color combinations using the WhoCanUse color contrast tool to make sure they are accessible to people experiencing a wide range of permanent, temporary, and situational visual disabilities.
I built this site with Jekyll to take advantage of its component-friendly templating engine. All the CSS is custom, and I kept the JavaScript to a minimum.
