We don't actually ever use the returned value, so make the method void. Since it modifies the list argument 'get' is probably not the best name, so change it to 'collect'.

Related to #94000
While reviewing #94000, I came across some smaller annoyances in the existing code of the
IngestService. Rather than expanding the scope of that PR to include these cleanups, I'm opening a separate PR for them.
