At MeerKAT, we have a really fantastic opportunity to build software that saves us a ton of time. Since we will be observing (entirely?) commensally, and since we can "point" the telescope with digital interferometry, we can build a system that continuously observes targets without needing human input. From what I can gather, this breaks down into several components:
| Software-Component | Difficulty | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Beam-Former / Interferometry | 😡 | 0% |
| Automated Target Selection | 😒 | 0% |
| Real-time candidate signal detection | 😠 | 0%? |
| Metadata requests and logging | 😕 | 0% |
| Manual target selection? | ? | 0% |
| Web interface to check telescope status? | 😟 | 0% |
But this repo is only for the "Metadata requests and logging" part... for now.
