This repository is dedicated as a one-stop-shop package for Effigy's lore; ala our codebase's upstream in TG's Common Core; that can be referenced in pull requests if you want to either start work based on the concepts within or theme an existing mechanic; system; or item around it. While future plans dictate a In-Game method of consulting this repository's information; as for now this serves as a way to agregate the relevant information.
As was initial chartered via a vote in #lore-district; the universe Effigy resides in is a vast starscape in an unknowable true scale; where the majority of options for character customization make logical sense within the setting. As such; this is not an attempt at an exhaustive understanding of the universe; nor will we be accepting any player-character-relevant lore in an official capacity. It is; instead; a collection of ideas; factions; histories; myths; and characters to build conversations; events; and your own characters around. For all intents and purposes; what is written here is canonical, to the extent that it would be widely beleived to be true in-universe.
The discovery of the newest Element on the periodic table - now called "Plasma"; after brief echoes of other Ps and Es; rocked the scientific community after initial reports emerged from Victus-Gyravi - and those who were caught in the first recorded plasmafire; the very same day - in a storm in late 2562; the properties of which were alotted as an incredibly brisky-utilized "missing link" to further technology miniaturization; resulting in a surge of development across all fields for humanity's starfaring expeditions; and a veritable gold rush into the stars - and directly into the corporate pocket of Nanotrasen; a relative underdog in both their home field of Research & Development, and their newfound cottage industry under their exclusive claims to the entire Victus-Gyravi system; Excavation. Operating primarily out of several orbital stations between Pyrafyte and Taeloth; along with several planetary installations (collectively referred to as "Space Station 13"); Nanotrasen's rise to power has been as rewarding as it has been sudden; the former nobodies and corporate drones of a otherwise dull employment cycle being marked by the spotlight of the cosmos' attention...
For better; and worse.
Victus-Gyravi is a relatively isolated habitable system, first met by sapient contact sometime within the Tizirian War; centered upon it's yellow star. Post-War; the space between Pyrafyte and Taeloth was awarded to Nanotrasen Heavy Industries for their commitment to the home front; who subsequently followed internal policy and passed the rights to their parent company in Nanotrasen proper. Resultingly; research operations were chartered for within the zone in 2543 with a primarily Eastern European crew; the first launch of what would later be referred to as Space Station 13 in recorded history. While early success was purported with it's 'open' design; and more refined strides into bluespace were first made within; what ultimately transpired with this original installation is a complete mystery to the outside world. While they were not the only inhabitants in the system; most notably also occupied by early probes by the Syndicate; for all intents and purposes, Nanotrasen was the only party with legal claim to any point within system space.
Irregardless; it's initial success allowed for Nanotrasen to continue expanding into the surrounding system; with the nearby Inulai Belt; planetoids of Taeloth (former. Victus-Gyravi-II); Pyrafyte (former. Victus-Gyravi-I), and Pyrafyte-A (former. Victus-Gyravi-I-A) all falling under Nanotrasen's thumb by 2558; ultimately culminating in the seizure of St. Lilyben in combat with DS-3; right on the edge of 2561.
- SS13 is; as a game; effectively a monster-of-the-week status-quo saturday morning cartoon. The lore within here should generally reflect this styling; and we shouldn't veer anywhere close to a proper grim setting - but breaking the mold occasionally for heart or for more impactful change is important; and helps flavor the state of things and general game long-term. Players are generally focused more on the immediate round regardless.
