About StockMeetsBagel
At our core, humans are social creatures who seek to understand others and be understood. As such, many are looking for love ❤️. One of the most common complaints amongst our single millennial peers is that online dating apps are too superficial. Many have expressed a desire to get to know someone on a more meaningful level, but given limited information such as photos and hobbies (which are generally fairly homogenous), this is difficult.
There is therefore a need for a product that helps potential friends and couples understand their compatibility and the inner psyche of their future partners from a much deeper perspective.
There are lots of ways to get to know someone and whether or not they hold the same values as you, and one of them is by looking at their investment choices. Especially in a situation where both parties are interested in long-term partnership, it would serve them well to understand if they are compatible in terms of their attitudes towards investment 📈
An investment contains many metrics that can tell us a lot about someone’s personality and values, such as whether they are:
- adventurous (Exploratory Excitability and Extravagance score)
- impulsive (Impulsiveness and Disorderliness score)
- social (Attachment and Dependence score)
- emotional (Sentimentality and Empathy score)
Our vision is to evaluate compatibility based on these metrics. We want to create a web application that compares two portfolios, gathers information about them, generates a compatibility index, and explains the reasoning behind our deductions.
Another important consideration is privacy. Our culture has an aversion to talking about assets, and so both parties should be able to provide information without worrying about judgement from the other. There should also be anonymity so that users can safely utilize our product without worrying about giving out too much information about themselves 👥✔️
StockMeetsBagel 🥯 is a web application that features two major functions: generating a personality profile based on the user’s portfolio and determining compatibility between two people based on their profiles. Both features employ a portfolio algorithm which appropriately weighs different stock metrics to build a complete picture of the user’s personality. The web application prioritizes ease of use for the general population and will be operational on multiple device types, particularly mobile and desktop 📱💻

Portfolio input is accomplished through manual entry 🖱️ into a webform, collecting the name and share (quantity) of stocks. After saving the user’s input to a database, a session ID 🆔 is generated to enable revisiting the results of the user’s portfolio analysis. Using an algorithm of our own design, the web application generates a personality profile 📄 based on the user’s portfolio, including personality categories, percentages describing how much the user fits into those categories, and explanations for the result.

The application also allows comparing a profile with another user. A user can enter their own session ID as well as another user's session ID to start comparing. The results of a compatibility algorithm will be displayed to show their overall compatibility, their personality category compatibilities, and explanations for the result.
