Before getting started

Create a key pair

1. Go to console.aws.amazon.com
2. Sign in with your AWS account
3. Select EC2
4. Click on Key Pairs
5. Create Key Pair
6. Key pair name: my_key

my_key.pem will be downloaded. Copy it to somewhere that it can be used later with an SSH client.

For PuTTY users

Run PuttyGen then:

1. Select Conversions then Import Key
2. Choose my_key.pem that was just downloaded and Open it
3. Change Key comment: to my_key for ONUG Tutorial
4. Click Save private key
5. Say Yes to warning about no passphrase.
6. File name: my_key then Save

When using PuTTY click on SSH the Auth then Browse to my_key.ppk (this can be saved as a default)
