🌱 Coding United Club Code of Conduct

Coding United is committed to providing a respectful, collaborative, and inspiring environment for all members β€” regardless of skill level, identity, or background. We aim to foster a community where everyone feels welcome, valued, and empowered to learn and create.

This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for all those who participate in our community, as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior. It applies to all club-related spaces, including but not limited to GitHub repositories, Discord servers, email communications, online or in-person meetings, and events.

🀝 Our Commitments

As members of the Coding United Club community, we pledge to:

  • Welcome everyone with respect, empathy, and curiosity.
  • Value all contributions and perspectives, regardless of experience or background.
  • Foster a learning-first culture where asking questions, sharing knowledge, and admitting mistakes are encouraged as part of the growth process.
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback gracefully, focusing on ideas and actions rather than individuals.
  • Uphold a standard of mutual respect and kindness in all interactions, holding ourselves and each other accountable.
  • Prioritize the safety and well-being of our community members.

🚫 Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable within our community:

  • Harassment, Discrimination, or Hate Speech: This includes offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, age, race, or religion. It also includes unwelcome comments regarding a person's lifestyle choices and practices, including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment.
  • Personal Attacks or Demeaning Comments: Insults, threats, or any language directed against another person that is meant to belittle, intimidate, or cause discomfort.
  • Dismissiveness or Gatekeeping: Intentionally making others feel unwelcome or inadequate for their questions, ideas, or level of experience.
  • Disruptive or Aggressive Behavior: Sustained disruption of discussions, talks, or meetings; trolling; or any form of intimidation.
  • Unwelcome Sexual Attention: Including unwelcome sexualized comments or jokes, inappropriate touching, groping, and unwelcome sexual advances.
  • Publishing Others' Private Information (Doxing): Sharing an individual's private information, such as a physical or electronic address, without their explicit permission.
  • Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional or community setting.

πŸ“’ Reporting Violations and Enforcement

If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify the Coding United Club Board as soon as possible.

  • Primary Contact: Reach out privately to the Club Board via email at codingunitedclub@snhu.edu.
  • All reports will be handled with discretion and confidentiality to the extent possible while ensuring a thorough review.

The Club Board is responsible for clarifying and interpreting this Code of Conduct and will take all reports seriously. Upon receiving a report, the Board will review the incident and determine, in its sole discretion, whether this Code of Conduct was violated.

If a participant engages in behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, the Club Board may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including:

  • A private warning to the individual(s) involved.
  • Temporary or permanent removal from a project or specific club spaces.
  • Reporting the incident to relevant university advisors or authorities.
  • A public statement if deemed necessary for the community's well-being (while maintaining victim confidentiality).

No action will be taken without a review process. We are committed to a fair and respectful enforcement process.

πŸ’¬ Our Shared Responsibility

We are not here to compete β€” we are here to build, learn, and support one another. Our community thrives when we all contribute to creating an environment of compassion, curiosity, and integrity. Every member shares the responsibility for upholding this Code of Conduct.

Thank you for helping us make Coding United a place where everyone can grow and feel they belong.
