CacheGuard is an enterprise-grade UTM (Unified Threat Managemen) and network optimisation gateway that provides firewalling, VPN, web antivirus, caching, URL filtering, forward and reverse proxying, web load balancing, WAF (Web Application Firewall), bandwidth shaping, and more.

High Availability is at the core of the CacheGuard appliance and is implemented using technologies such as RAID, link bonding, VRRP, and cache sharing. An integrated SNMP agent allows the appliance to send traps in the event of a fault or service degradation.

CacheGuard is available as an operating system appliance that can be installed on the hardware or virtual machine of your choice. It can be deployed transparently within any existing architecture and act as a central point through which all network traffic passes.

The CacheGuard appliance is based on a hardened Linux system built from scratch. It integrates netfilter, iproute2, Squid, SquidGuard, Apache, StrongSwan, ModSecurity, ClamAV, and many other open-source components, all interfaced as a cohesive system. This design enables straightforward configuration and management through either the command-line interface (CLI) or the web-based graphical user interface (Web GUI).

Please note that, as CacheGuard is distributed as an operating system, sharing its full source code directly in this repository is not practical. However, CacheGuard-OS remains an open-source project, primarily written in Bash, and its source code can be consulted once installed on a machine.
