Exposome Geocoder Tool Wiki

Welcome to the Exposome Geocoder Tool documentation. This toolkit enables researchers to geocode patient location data and link it with environmental and social determinant datasets for comprehensive exposure analysis.

Note: This toolkit does not require or share any Protected Health Information (PHI).

What is the Exposome Geocoder Tool?

The Exposome Geocoder Tool is a reproducible workflow that:

  • Converts patient addresses or coordinates into Census Tract (FIPS 11-digit) identifiers
  • Links geocoded data with exposome datasets for environmental exposure analysis
  • Supports integration with OMOP Common Data Model (CDM)
  • Enables GIS-based linkage with social determinants of health (SDoH) indices

Key Features

  • Multiple Input Formats: Supports addresses, coordinates, and OMOP CDM data
  • Docker-Based: Uses containerized DeGAUSS toolkit for reproducible geocoding
  • Privacy-First: All geocoding happens locally - no PHI shared externally
  • Comprehensive: Links with ADI, SVI, AHRQ, and other SDoH indices
  • Flexible: Works with CSV files or direct database connections

Getting Started

The geocoding and linkage workflow consists of these main steps:

  1. Input Preparation: Prepare your address, coordinate, or OMOP data
  2. Running the Geocoder: Execute geocoding to generate FIPS codes
  3. Understanding Outputs: Interpret geocoded results and FIPS codes
  4. GIS Linkage: Link geocoded data with SDoH indices using PostGIS

Docker Containers

This workflow uses two Docker containers:

  1. Exposome Geocoder Container (prismaplab/exposome-geocoder:1.0.3)

    • Converts addresses/coordinates to Census Tract (FIPS) codes
    • Uses DeGAUSS backend for geocoding
  2. Exposome Linkage Container (ghcr.io/chorus-ai/chorus-postgis-sdoh:main)

    • Integrates geocoded outputs with SDoH datasets
    • Produces analysis-ready EXTERNAL_EXPOSURE.csv file
