Fix #133
This allows variable groups to optionally span the data columns. It converts the first table below into the second when
label_colspan = TRUE.Only the last commit is a functional change to the package. The prior commits were to make the modification easier to perform (no functional changes happened before that last commit).
This also adds
testthattesting for that new functionality.
