While _Mus musculus_ is phylogenetically closer to our taxa of interest (Sigmodontinae), its karyotype is highly rearranged. In contrast, _Rattus norvegicus_ presents a more conserved rodent karyotype but is more evolutionarily distant. Would you have a recommendation on which system might offer better results for initial experiments in non-model Amazonian rodents?
