Seeking Guidance on Oligopaint Probes for Avian and Rodent Cytogenomics #23

We would be most grateful for your guidance on a few specific questions as we begin this new line of work:

  1. We are interested in initially using the oligopaint resources available in the repository, specifically for birds (Passeriformes) using _Gallus gallus_ probes. Based on your expertise, do you believe that cross-species hybridization would be effective in this context?

  2. For rodent studies, we are considering probes from either _Rattus norvegicus_ or _Mus musculus_. While _Mus musculus_ is phylogenetically closer to our taxa of interest (Sigmodontinae), its karyotype is highly rearranged. In contrast, _Rattus norvegicus_ presents a more conserved rodent karyotype but is more evolutionarily distant. Would you have a recommendation on which system might offer better results for initial experiments in non-model Amazonian rodents?
