Summary of Changes

  • Institution Features: Institutions can now flag programs with aviation components through new dedicated questions, without relying on course load type. Aviation programs are automatically routed for review and flagged as “Pending” to ensure correct eligibility and oversight.
  • Ministry User Features: A bug was fixed where exception questions and file uploads submitted in July were not displaying correctly in in-progress applications. Resolved restrictions from the legacy system are now properly carried over into SIMS, ensuring accurate student records. And lastly, Parent declaration details for 25/26 applications are now displayed more clearly in the application history and menus, improving visibility for both students and ministry users.
  • Student User Features: Students’ SIMS profiles now pre-fill their address from their BC Services Card for consistency and accuracy. Applications have been updated with clearer handling of unsuccessful completions, improved employment/childcare and living situation questions, and a new option to appeal room and board costs. Parent declarations are easier to track with new email notifications and clearer display of parent information, while updates to self-reported parent income improve consistency in the 2025/26 program year.
  • Parent/Partner User Features: For 2025/26, the Parent Form has been redesigned into separate forms for each parent, with clearer income questions and guidance to avoid duplicate reporting. A new option also allows students to declare estimated current year income for each parent individually ensuring more accurate assessments when income has significantly decreased.

Summary of Changes

  • Institution Features: None in 2.12
  • Ministry User Features: Recent SIMS updates for institutions include the addition of yellow warning banners with eligibility criteria and confirmation checkboxes for certain exception requests, ensuring users meet requirements before proceeding. Restriction logic was refined to automatically apply SSRN or SSR restrictions based on unsuccessful weeks reported in full-time applications. Tooltips were updated with proper SIMS-style bullets for improved readability, and legacy restriction mappings were corrected to prevent incorrect part-time funding blocks while updating outdated mappings.
  • Student User Features: None in 2.12
  • Parent/Partner User Features: Recent updates for Parent/Partner users include improved search functionality by replacing the date of birth search with an exact full name search, enhanced error messaging, and eligibility checks. New features allow parents without a SIN or BC Services Card to provide information through adjusted forms, including updated headers, simplified fields, and clear visual cues. The Parent Declaration process now uses clearer tracker cards to indicate required actions and only marks completion once all declarations are finalized.

Summary of Changes

  • Institution Features: In this release, the system will now separately track unsuccessful completion weeks for full-time (FT) and part-time (PT) studies, as required by policy. A new FT counter has been created, and both counters will be visible in the portals, with safeguards to prevent reporting more weeks than offered.
  • Ministry Features: The ministry made two key changes to improve the Full-Time application process for the 2025–26 program year. First, students will now enter parent information through the same form used by parents, improving validation and transparency by creating a “supporting user” for each parent and logging their declarations in the application history. Second, student names will now appear at the top of key ministry pages to enhance consistency and user experience, while the large application number will be removed from view.
  • Student Features: Several updates have been made to improve the student application experience. These include new questions to assess Room and Board eligibility, the addition of a bankruptcy question to meet policy requirements, and clearer processes for students unable to provide parental information due to estrangement. Other changes include fixes for underlined text, validation to prevent negative currency entries, and a new parent residency exception process to support students with out-of-province parents.
