Releases: arrowtype/type-x
Type-X lives!
All the updates of recent releases 0.2.1 and 0.2.2, plus:
- The extension now auto-activates as soon as you drop or load in a font (#152)
- Error messaging is improved (#152)
Many thanks to:
- @simoncozens for all his recent work to rewrite and revive the extension.
- Google Fonts for financially supporting Simon’s recent work here, along with financially supporting much of the original design & development.
- @RoelN for making several recent UX upgrades, as well as for his original work in developing and co-designing an earlier major version of the extension.
- @arrowtype for coordinating the recent development work, as well as leading the original design and development.
- Everyone who expressed support of the extension. We couldn’t have revived this without you!
This extension now feels great to use, and we are working to make it available on the Chrome Web Store, soon. Until then, though, this version can be considered “ready for production use,” in developer mode. (See the readme for instructions.) Enjoy!
Type-X lives!
This release features all the major improvements of v0.2.0 and v0.2.1, plus:
- Changes made to a font override configuration (such as moving sliders) immediately activate the extension, if it is currently inactive. Previously, you had to remember to first turn on “Type-X” switch, as a separate step. (PR #145)
- Changes made no longer show a “flash of unstyled text” (FOUT). Instead, they more instantly apply the new change. (PR #146)
- Updates the “ignore” list to avoid icon issues on Google Meet #149
- Adjusts the footer links to be more user-centric #150

Improve slider interaction
This release features all the major improvements of v0.2.0, plus an improvement to the slider interaction.
Now, you can directly apply a variable style by moving the sliders, rather than first having to use the style menu. Basically, it’s slightly more intuitive than before.
See PR #144 for details of the change.
Continued thanks to @simoncozens for all his recent work to revive the extension, and many thanks to @RoelN for making this relatively small but very meaningful upgrade!
Major renovation to make extension useful again
We will soon work to get Type-X relisted on the Chrome Web Store.
Until then, you can use the following release file, and upload it in Developer Mode.
See current Installation instructions.
Many thanks to @simoncozens for the vast majority of this rebuild effort! The extension is running better than ever before.

Type-X: work-in-progress developer mode Chrome extension
We're still working through a few user-experience and performance issues, but Type-X is already a super handy tool!
This version includes the latest betas of Recursive, a variable font family for code & UI. Of course, the real fun of Type-X is using or loading your own fonts, to test fonts across the web!
