Proposal: Use BungeeCord and Paper for Local Server Hosting

Introduction

Port-forwarding is a common barrier for users who want to host their own Minecraft servers. This proposal suggests using BungeeCord and Paper to enable local server hosting as an easier alternative.

Proposed Solution

  • BungeeCord: Acts as a proxy to manage client-server connections.
  • Paper: Provides a high-performance backend for local hosting.
  • Local Hosting: Eliminates the need for port-forwarding.

Benefits

  • Easier setup for non-technical users.
  • Improved performance and scalability.
  • Enhanced security by avoiding port-forwarding.

Implementation Plan

  1. Integrate BungeeCord into ClassiCube.
  2. Configure Paper for local hosting.
  3. Add local server detection to the ClassiCube client.

Technical Details

  • BungeeCord will route traffic between the client and Paper.
  • Paper will be optimized for local hosting.

Challenges

  • Compatibility between ClassiCube, BungeeCord, and Paper.
  • Performance optimization for local hosting.

Next Steps

  • Gather feedback from the community.
  • Develop a proof of concept.
  • Submit a pull request with the proposed changes.
