The Microsoft Store version is x64 only. ARM64 is not yet available on the Store while it is in beta. If you're on an ARM64 device, please use the ARM64 installer or portable download above.

Major Feature Updates (5.30)

Native ARM64 Support (beta build until proven stable)

WindowTop now has a native ARM64 build for Windows on ARM devices. If you're running Windows on a Snapdragon X or similar ARM64 processor, you can now run WindowTop natively without x64 emulation.
This was requested by few users (e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowTop/comments/1pgpxo5/windowtop_arm64_binaries_for_copilot_pcs/ )

Note: GPU acceleration (CUDA) for Glass Mode is not available on ARM64, as CUDA is x64-only. Glass Mode itself works using CPU rendering. This build is beta until proven stable.

New option to hide windows from the taskbar when the Anchor is visible! (#473)

This update introduces a highly enhancement for the Anchors feature. You can now choose to automatically hide a window from the taskbar whenever its Anchor is shown.

The goal of this feature is to declutter your taskbar by removing icons for windows that are already easily accessible via their on-screen Anchor.

How it works:

  • The window remains in the taskbar if it is minimized or currently visible on your screen.
  • The window is hidden from the taskbar only when it is fully covered by other windows and its Anchor is shown.
  • This feature is disabled by default and can be toggled in the settings.

You can access this new option from the quick settings page:
image

And also, from the "Advanced Feature Settings".

Disable Arrow Dragging (#350 - New since 5.30.3!)

You can now lock the position of the WindowTop arrow (the toolbar trigger) to prevent accidental movement. This is particularly useful for users who have a specific workflow and want the toolbar trigger to remain in a fixed location on the window frame.

How to enable:

  • Go to Toolbar Settings.
  • Toggle Disable arrow drag to On.
image

For more details, see #350

Minor Changes (5.30.X)

5.30.3

  • Added a feature to disable dragging the WindowTop arrow button (#350).

5.30.2

  • Fixed a bug in the new feature where, when a window is minimized via the Anchor while its taskbar button is hidden, a side effect caused a small window to appear above the taskbar at the bottom left of the screen.
5.30.2 Microsoft Store build only:
  • Critical Fix (Microsoft Store only): Resolved an issue affecting customers who made purchases between 2026-02-10 and 2026-03-15. Previously, the software failed to recognize valid licenses and incorrectly prompted users to purchase the app again. Following this update, all purchases made during this period will be properly recognized, and the app will correctly activate.

5.30.2 ARM64 Initial Build (beta until proven stable)

I am pleased to introduce the first native ARM64 build for WindowTop. Please note that this build is currently in beta until it is proven stable. Once stability is confirmed, it will also be made available on the Microsoft Store.

5.30.1 (beta until proven stable)

  • Fixed a bug in the new feature where, when the window's taskbar button is hidden, the window could not be accessed via the Alt+Tab menu.

5.30.0 (beta until proven stable)

  • The installation and software file size has been reduced by nearly 10MB. Instead of 32.7MB, it now weighs 26.2MB.
  • Fixed a potential bug that could cause Windows to ignore focus events when using the PiP (Picture in Picture) feature.
  • Fixed a bug in the PiP (Picture in Picture) feature where, in some cases, the original window is not completely hidden and its taskbar button icon remains visible (may happen if "live preview" and "hide original window" options are enabled).
  • Improved the Anchors tips window by adding more important options that many users are unaware of (and often ask about without knowing they exist).
  • Changed the default setting of the Anchor feature regarding the "Stay away from text or image" option—the algorithm's default is now "Minimum movement," so it will attempt to move the anchor icons shorter distances.
Several bug fixes for the Anchor feature.

Major Feature Updates (5.29)

The CROP feature has been significantly enhanced with new functionality that lets you quickly select crop regions based on window elements! (#324)

Until now, the only way to mark a crop region was to manually select the area to match the part you wanted to crop.
Now there’s a new capability — the feature can analyze elements from the window and display region selection options based on those elements, allowing you to quickly choose any crop region!

See the following video for examples:

For more examples, see #324 :)

  • Changed the text "Mapping element" to "Detecting crop regions" and added missing translations for it in other languages
  • Fixed minor bugs

Major Feature Updates (5.28)

Implemented support to self-update in the non-Microsoft Store version (#440).

Until now, only a version installed through the Microsoft Store could update itself.
If you installed the software via the regular installer and a new version was released, the user had to manually download the new installer from here and run it.

Now, that’s no longer the case—when a new version is available, the software will simply ask if you want to update. Just click YES and the whole process will run automatically. You won’t need to do any manual work to update. Click YES to update, and it is take care for you :)

In addition, since 5.28.6 we added traditional Chinese language thanks to 朱逸民! (#450)

  • Fixed bug that PiP & Crop position is not saved and applied via the "Save window configuration" feature (#448-comment)

5.28.2 (Beta until proven stable)

  • Fixed bug where Crop and PIP settings, as well as other settings such as opacity, were not saved for PiP mode via the "Save window configuration" feature (#448)

5.28.1

  • Change the implementation to use %temp%/windowtop instead of %appdata%/windowtop/temp for downloading the update, and make a minor change to the update file name.

Major Feature Updates (5.27)

Implemented feature to toggle anchor point for a specific window! (#183)

Until now, you could only enable anchors for all windows, without the ability to enable them for specific windows.
That's now changed! You can now enable this feature for individual windows, just like you can with any other feature.

You can even save the configuration using the "Save window configuration" option, so the software will remember to show the anchor only for the windows you chose.
Of course, you can also enable or disable it via shortcut keys.

I'm happy to announce that after several days of testing, the latest version is confirmed to be stable.
Looking forward to your feedback on this! Feel free to share it directly in the #183 feature request :)

  • Added support to save Anchor mode for specific windows via the save window configuration feature. If Anchor mode is enabled and the configuration is saved, it will remember to enable Anchor for that window, just like other features.
  • Ensured the anchor tips appear on first usage, even when enabled via the toolbar or hotkey.
  • Updated the Anchors tab in Quick Start settings to include new options for the Anchor hotkey and toolbar.
  • Fixed various edge-case bugs found during alpha testing.
5.27.0 (Alpha)

What's Next?

See the roadmap #389 thread :)

Minor Changes (5.26.0)

5.26.0

  • The arrow now appears sharper and clearer.
  • Fixed: Previously, when viewed closely, a transparent rectangle was visible around the arrow. This issue has been resolved.
5.26.1 (Beta)
  • Fixed: Integration with the minimize button was not working properly (#402)
5.26.2 (Beta)
  • Fixed: Issue with toolbar integration with minimize, where the toolbar remained visible for 0.5-1 second after the user clicked on minimize (#402 (comment))

5.26.3

  • Fixed: Glitches with the toolbar position when integrated with the minimize button. Before the fix, the toolbar sometimes jumped to the left before disappearing.
  • Improved: Rewritten the code of the toolbar and arrow in a new way, which should consume less CPU resources
5.26.4 (Beta until proven stable)
  • Added: Additional logic to prevent dialogs or prompts (e.g., the feedback prompt or update version dialog) from appearing while a game is running in full screen. Note: This is applicable if the game mode detection option is enabled (enabled by default). This should address #412 in case of game detection

5.26.5

  • Fixed: "Nullable object must have a value" error (regression bug from 5.26.3). The fix may also resolve similar past errors, improving overall stability (#423)

The release also includes the update from 5.26.4 beta

This setting can be configured under hotkey settings or opacity settings:

image

opacity.scroll.hotkey.webm

Currently, there is a known issue where it does not function on windows with higher privileges (elevated/admin windows) unless WindowTop is also running as Admin. I have spent some time trying to find a workaround, but unfortunately, no solution has been found yet.

What next?

See the roadmap #389 thread :)

Minor Changes (5.25.x)

5.25.0

  • Added several missing translations for a few languages. The coverage of translations is now much improved.
Special thanks to ChatGPT for the assistance. If you spot any translation mistakes, please feel free to report them!
You can report issues here: #323 or by contacting us.
  • Fixed a potential issue where WindowTop might not exit properly (requiring manual termination through the task manager).

5.25.1

  • Fixed an issue that the license is not loaded in the secondary process that handles admin windows (#395)

5.25.2

  • Fixed: Issue where a window's saved configuration was being reapplied when returning to the virtual desktop (#397)

When you first start WindowTop, the assistant window will show an option to import existing settings with a single click.
After the import is complete, the app will restart with your imported settings.

windowtop.load.settings.from.wizard.webm

If you don't have settings saved, you can click next as usual. In the last step, the assistant window will now show an option to export (backup) the settings you just set:
image

The backup file can also include your license if desired.
Here are some screenshots showing the backup option:
image
image

You can now quickly export settings and restore/reuse them on another device. The export creates a JSON file.
When exporting, you have the option to include the license key, allowing a quick method to reuse your license key and preferred settings.

To load settings, click "Import settings," then browse to the file you created with the export option.

Minor Changes (5.24.x)

5.24.0

No minor changes.

5.24.1

Improvements for #63

  • Added spinner icon while import is in progress
  • Added a confirmation message notifying the user that the import will override current settings and the app will restart, and requesting user confirmation to continue
  • Added a notification message shown after the app restarts to confirm import completion
  • Fixed an issue where auto-start with Windows was not applied from imported settings
  • The first page of the window assistant shows the import option, and the last page shows the export button

Major feature updates (5.-->23<--)

Non-Microsoft Store activation now supports activation by email account!

We developed a new licensing feature that allows you to link your license key with your email (if you want), so next time, you can activate the app using your email address.
This feature is available for new purchases only (10$ for the non-Microsoft Store activation instead of 15$ one)
You can also use this activation on the Microsoft Store version.

After applying the license key, the app will show you the option to link it to your email.
image

You don't have to do it. It is optional. But if you did it, next time, you can activate the app on another device using the image option.

Here is a demo video that shows activation by email:

Activate.by.email.login.or.verification.link.webm

Better error handling of activation issues (non-Microsoft store activation)

Improved design of activation flows, such as:

  • If the license key is not working and you can't apply it, the program will display a "Contact support" button
    image
  • If there is a license issue, it will show you your options in more detail with better and more helpful information.
For example, in case that you exceed that maximum amount of allowed devices, it will look like this:
    image
Everything is fully translated into all languages.

Other license fixes (non-Microsoft store activation):

  • Fixed: Users reported that after the bios update, they mistakenly detected that the device had changed and asked for a second activation.
It should be resolved now, even without using activation by email. It was a bug that required reimplementing the entire activation system. Part of the improvements is to fix this bug as well.

Dark mode improved by fixing an issue that the colors were wrong (#362)

Before After
image image

We added it as a new option called "Keep colors" that you can quickly enable via the toolbar:
dark mode fix colors
Sometimes, this may cause the text to be unclear, so if you experience this, you can quickly disable it from the toolbar.

It is also available in the quick start settings:
