Project: Congregation WiFi

James K edited this page Feb 10, 2017 · 4 revisions

Justification

This project has three motivations:

  1. With the deployment of Staff WiFi, there are minimal additional hardware needs.
  2. WiFi is a really nice thing to have, especially for those with tight data budgets.
  3. Requiring congregants to sign in with their device provides a (limited) window into congregant attendance patterns, which are otherwise difficult to track.

Project Scope

This project seeks to make WiFi available to the congregation wherever it is available to staff. It also aims to specify parameters for security, firewalling, and authentication.

Project Components

  • Configuration of Access Points and switches to allow for a segregated "public" SSID and VLAN. (Complete)
  • Development of Authentication mechanism to allow members and regular attenders to securely identify themselves.
  • Analysis of whether web content filtering should be implemented on this network.

Hardware Purchases Needed

  • 1 RaspberryPi (to run authentication software) (Already purchased)
  • Other hardware included in Staff WiFi Project
