This is to update the raid firmware on the R630, R730 and R730xd nodes. This currently depends on a modified maintenance image built with https://github.com/stackhpc/toram.

Open questions:

  • Is checking the server model sufficient, or should we also check presence of raid controller with lshw -class storage or similar?
  • the update requires the megaraid_sas kernel module to be loaded, so looking for an alternative way to ensure the controller isn't in use:
[centos@maintenance-storage-b-0 ~]$ sudo modprobe -r megaraid_sas
[centos@maintenance-storage-b-0 ~]$ sudo ./SAS-RAID_Firmware_8WK8N_LN_25.5.4.0006_A12.BIN
Collecting inventory...
..
Running validation...

This Update Package is not compatible with your system configuration.

It was ascertained that the C4130 nodes do not use this controller (pci-id: 1000:005d)

openstack baremetal introspection data save --file gpu-intro gpu-b16-u1
cat gpu-intro | jq ".pci_devices" | grep 005d
<no output>

compared to:

openstack baremetal introspection data save --file compa sv-b17-u35
cat compa | jq ".pci_devices" | grep 5d
    "product_id": "005d"
