A fast-paced puzzle shooter for the Commodore 64
Slotshot is a unique blend of puzzle and shooter mechanics designed for the Commodore 64. Set on Deep Space Colony K-7 in the year 2084, you must stop a mysterious crystalline growth from consuming the station by shooting colored vaccine blocks through gaps to neutralize entire columns.
The game combines fast reflexes with strategic thinking as you manage three different bullet types, cascading blocks, and an accelerating threat level.
- Fill the Gaps: Shoot colored blocks to fill empty spaces in columns
- Complete Columns Vanish: Fill all 10 rows in a column to clear it
- Cascade Physics: When a column clears, blocks slide right to fill the space
- Block Aging: Hit blocks fade from white → grey → dark grey → black (gone)
- Progressive Difficulty: 10 levels with increasing speed
Each bullet type has unique behavior:
| Type | Color | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| White | ⚪ | Standard - stops at first wall |
| Yellow | 🟡 | Drills through walls - stops at first gap |
| Blue | 🔵 | Permanent - blocks don't age after hit |
The next bullet type is randomly selected and shown in the "Next" indicator.
- Column Clear: 10 points + (5 × level)
- Cascade Clear: 15 points + (5 × level)
- Shot Cost: -1 point per shot
- High Score: Saved between sessions
- IRQ-Driven Animation: Smooth 60 FPS sprite movement for cannon and bullets
- Raster Split Graphics: Bitmap title screen with text menu overlay
- RLE Compression: Efficient storage of title screen artwork
- Furnace Tracker Music: Three original music tracks
- Zero Page Optimization: Fast gameplay with minimal overhead
- Memory Relocation: Critical code relocated to specific addresses for better memory utilization
