Fix "put"

I found that _put would sometimes be called without doc. I did this fix some time ago so don't remember what was the scenario exactly. I'll understand if you reject the PR since I can't tell how to reproduce the issue.

Also, removes deprecated version field in bower.json

So there's good news and bad news.
