Configuring MCWeb is very simple. All that's needed is to tell the application where to look for your Minecraft servers. Once you've cloned the GitHub repo to get MCWeb, open up the file mcweb.rb in your text editor of choice, and look for the following line:

set :mcroot, "/root/minecraft"

Change the path inside the set of quotes from /root/minecraft to the root directory of your Minecraft server folders. Be sure to leave the quotes, though!

Server detection

Once MCWeb is configured and started (by running the mcweb.rb file), it will attempt to find Minecraft SMP installations in subfolders of the root you specified. How does MCWeb tell when it finds a server folder? It checks for the existence of one of these five files:

  • .mcweb
  • server.properties
  • craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar
  • minecraft_server.jar
  • Minecraft_Server.exe

If any of those five are found, MCWeb assumes the folder is a server folder, and displays configuration information on it. (For more information on the first file, .mcweb, see the page MCWeb Files.)
