This project focuses on analyzing the performance of customers and sales managers using Microsoft Excel. The goal was to explore the data, generate meaningful insights, and enhance skills in Power Query, Power Pivot, Pivot Tables, and Data Visualization.
Organizations often need to monitor both customer performance and sales team effectiveness. This project simulates that scenario using a sample dataset. The analysis answers questions such as:
- Which customers are driving the most sales?
- Which region is contributing the major sales?
- What customer segment is generating most profit?
- Trend analysis on Sales & Quantity on Month on Month basis.
The data source is an Excel workbook containing five(5) related tables:
- Customer – customer details and IDs
- Location – geographical attributes
- Orders – sales orders (transactions)
- Product – product details, categories, and name
- Sales Team – sales team details
-
Data Preparation: Imported the five(5) tables using Power Query and loaded the data into Power Pivot. No transformation was done to the dataset as they were all clean.
-
Data Modeling: The data was modeled in Power Pivot by creating relationships between the tables.

-
Analysis
- Created Pivot Tables to measure sales, quantity, discount, profit, and some breakdown analysis
- Applied slicers for filtering (e.g., year)
- Compared the sales & quantity on a month on month basis

- The top five customers account for over 3% of total sales, with Sean Miller emerging as the highest contributor.
- The “Organic” sales manager category generated the largest share of sales, highlighting that the organization earns significantly more revenue with minimal human intervention.
- The West Region is responsible for over 37% of total revenue, making it the strongest performing region.
- The Consumer segment stands out as the most profitable customer segment.
- Excel Power Query – Data Loading.
- Excel Power Pivot – Building relationships between tables.
- Pivot Tables & Charts – Performance analysis and visualization
- Slicers – Interactive filtering
This project was built as a practice exercise to strengthen skills in Data Visualization within Microsoft Excel. It simulates real-world performance tracking for customers and sales teams.
