Getting Started
This guide will help you join our chat and events, access critical resources, and prepare to contribute.
- WhatsApp Group: Join our WhatsApp group for project updates and quick communication. You can request an invite link or provide your phone number.
- Google Calendar Access: We use a shared Google Calendar to schedule coding and planning sessions. Please use a personal Gmail address (not a university email) to avoid future access issues.
- GitHub Account: Make sure you have a GitHub account, as we use GitHub for version control and project management. The Project Setup page gives advice on how to create one.
- (Optional) Discord: We also have a Discord chat for additional communication. If interested, please provide your Discord username.
Note: We’re working on a secure method for new contributors to submit their information anonymously for setup. In the meantime, please reach out to a project admin.
To set up your environment and run the project, please refer to our detailed Project Setup and Running page, which includes:
- IDE setup recommendations (IntelliJ IDEA).
- Cloning instructions via the IDE or command line.
- Steps for building and running Roky.
To understand our workflow and make meaningful contributions, please review:
- How We Work: Overview of our pair/mob programming sessions and weekly planning meetings.
- Contribution Guidelines: Information on coding standards, branching conventions, and commit message format.
You’re now ready to join our pair/mob programming sessions and weekly planning meetings. All events are scheduled on the Google Calendar, and you’re encouraged to RSVP for sessions you plan to attend. If you’re not yet ready to code, attending a session as an observer is a great way to get familiar with our workflow.
