I'm happy to report that with these changes, the project successfully builds on a two-weeks-old NixOS unstable. (In case that NixOS/nixpkgs#46130 has not yet trickled down to the channel one's using, one has to deactivate the test suite of the sdl2 Haskell bindings manually.)
