Translations' page

Welcome to the socializer's translations page! here you will find some useful instructions on how to add, edit and update translations. Thank you for your interest!

requirements

Currently, I am using gettext for writing messages in socializer. It means that it will require you work with .po (portable object) files that bind translated strings to the program's source code. There are several ways for dealing with these kind of files, but I suggest you to use poedit, mainly because it simplifies the work and it will help you to have a better translation.

Download the last poEdit version from their website, install it by following its wizard, fill in your information (once you open PoEdit for the first time, you will see a dialogue where you can write initial information. Please make sure that you have filled out your first and last name, your email address and the language you are working with), Find the download for the needed file below, and feel free to start translating after.

In order to start the translation process, you will have to download a template file. This file contains the messages that should be translated into your language. This is the link for the most recent version for the translation template:

Adding a new language

if you want to add a new language to this project, please do the following steps:

• At first, please go to the translators team section on this page, and look if your translation already exists and if so, check if there's someone working on it.
• If your language is not listed in that section, download the translation template.
• Once downloaded, unzip the file and change its extension from .pot to .po.
• Open that file with poedit and start translating. The process is quite easy, you will have a list and three edit boxes where are the original term in English, the translation for that term and a field for putting notes, respectively. Press tab and shift tab for changing between these controls. Once you have translated a term, go to the list and look for the next untranslated word.
• When finished, save the file as socializer.po. If you see compiler errors, try to fix those before proceed. When you save the file, you will see a new file is created, with the .mo extension. In this example, you will see there are two files, socializer.po and socializer.mo. Make sure the .mo file is created.
• Compress both socializer.po and socializer.mo in a zip file, and upload it to somewhere that could be accessed in a browser (like dropbox, yandex.disc, meo cloud, one drive, google drive, etc) and send me the link. • If you have problems, you could contact me and I'll try to help you as soon as possible.
• After your translation is merged upstream, you will be added to the translations team.

Translation instructions

Thake into account the following when translating:

• When translating, remember that a percent sign followed by a letter denotes a variable processed in the software itself. For example: %d tweets means actually the number of tweets you received, and Logged in as %s means that you’re logged in under your username.
• You might occasionally find curly braces meaning the same thing, for example: {0} hours and {1} minutes can mean any hours and minutes number. Please place these placeholders appropriately to your language.
• The & signs (ampersands, or «And» signs) before a letter indicate that this letter will be underlined in a menu or dialog and you can use it in conjunction with the Alt key to quickly access the item. For example, if you see a menu item named E&xit, that means that the letter x will be underlined, and you can press Alt+X to quickly perform this command. Please place those signs appropriately for your language. Try not to repeat yourself in one dialog or menu.
