This is to support Almazny v1.2 on our release-7 branches, so we don't have to do a large scale ARTIQ upgrade to a non-release upstream branch.
Almazny v1.2 is already supported by the master branch on upstream. The corresponding commit is cherry-picked for this backport.
Not tested. Do not merge.
