Using Slack
Please read HYPED’s Slack etiquette.
This should be an updated list of active Slack channels in HYPED.
All our communication is done through Slack, a messaging app designed for use in work environments. Slack is divided into “channels”, which is basically a group chat but with a name. There are many channels, but some of the most important are:
- #_important
- #gen-general
- #tech-gen
- #h-y-p-e-r-m-e-m-e-s
Slack has some awesome features that help keep things organised: You can reply to messages in threads. This is great for having multiple simultaneous conversations in one channel (please do this, instead of spamming the channel!). You can edit and delete your messages. (Press up arrow to edit your last message.) Please use these all the time!
Slack also has the capability for private messages. To find Slack channels, click on “Channels” (left side of the screen) and go through the list of channels there. You can search for all Technical team channels by typing ‘tech’ and for all software channels by typing ‘tech-soft’ (or just ‘soft’). The notable software channels include: #tech-soft - The main software channel. All announcements relevant to the Software team will go here. Also good for discussions which don’t fit into any other software channel #tech-soft-help - Place to ask all kinds of technical questions, especially about C++, Git, or programming / software engineering in general.
