AstroECP v1.1 (AstroEBSD release v1.6).

04 Oct 00:40

Choose a tag to compare

This release adds in the RTM based refinement and indexing algorithms, which are now described within the updated preprint (https://arxiv.org/abs/2507.00354) and builds upon the v1 release.

The indexing scheme requires prior knowledge of the detector distance, or the search will likely fail. The RMT algorithm uses the Foden et al. method: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ultramic.2019.112845

This release aligns with the publication of:

M. Haroon Qaiser, Lukas Berners, Robin J. Scales, Tianbi Zhang, Martin Heller, Jiri Dluhos, Sandra Korte-Kerzel, T. Ben Britton (2025). AstroECP: towards more practical Electron Channeling Contrast Imaging (preprint: https://arxiv.org/abs/2507.00354)

Major highlight: added AstroECP as a pattern indexing and visualization tool and an experimental control assistant that facilitates electron channeling contrast imaging (ECCI) by precisely dictating about the requisite stage tilts/rotations of SEM to navigate along the crystal.

Please see modules/AstroECP/read_me_AstroECPv1.txt for details.

The code was largely developed by T. Ben Britton, Haroon Qaiser, Lukas Berners and Tianbi Zhang

This release provides updates to enable analysis of h5 patterns captured using the Pixet Pro software and a static EBSD stage that is mounted within the SEM chamber.

The release aligns with this manuscript (available shortly on the ArXiv):

"A simple, static and stage mounted direct electron detector based electron backscatter diffraction system" Tianbi Zhang and T. Ben Britton*
Department of Materials Engineering, The University of British Columbia. 309-6350 Stores Road, Vancouver, BC, V6T 1Z4 Canada
*Corresponding author: ben.britton@ubc.ca

The code was largely developed by Tianbi Zhang in collaboration with Ben Britton.

There are a few additional small features added from our internal builds of AstroEBSD to improve functionality.

v1.1 - Transmission Kikuchi Diffraction - Direct Electron Detection

This is an update to release code for the upcoming preprint: "Multi-exposure diffraction pattern fusion applied to enable wider-angle transmission Kikuchi diffraction with direct electron detectors" by Tianbi Zhang (0000-0002-0035-9289), T. Ben Britton* (0000-0001-5343-9365) of the University of British Columbia, BC, Canada.

The release includes a new module to handle Pixet direct electron diffraction patterns. There are also a cluster of new phases added to the phase listings.
