Welcome to the RiverWatch_Web wiki!

Created by volunteers at Civic Tech Fredericton

Description

RiverWatch_Web is a website for the distribution of flood forecast data for 19 communities (expanding to 23 in 2019) in the Saint John River Basin in New Brunswick, Canada. The flood forecast data is provided by the Government of New Brunswick (GNB) and distributed as open data in XML format. Flood forecasts are issued during the spring freshet (mid-March until late May) and at other times when water levels are high. Forecasts are typically issued near midday and the frequency varies from several days to daily. Forecast frequency is primarily dictated by how quickly the water levels are changing.

RiverWatch_web was created to replace an older website that was built with Adobe Flex and required the Adobe Flash Player. Therefore the older website is not compatible with mobile devices. During flood events, some people may only have access to a mobile device if they have been flooded out of their home. It is very important that the flood forecast data is available on mobile devices. RiverWatch_Web has a mobile first/responsive design that works well on all screen sizes

The production version of the RiverWatch_Web website is hosted by Service New Brunswick at geonb.snb.ca/rwm
